Green Side Up Environmental Services & Landscaping (GSU)

 is an award winning ecological contracting company specializing in landscape construction and natural resource management. We provide services for all levels of government, the private sector, and non-government organizations (NGO’s).

About Us

Green Side Up Environmental Services & Landscaping

was founded by Doug Kennedy, a graduate of Sir Sandford Fleming College (Frost Campus) in Lindsay. Doug Kennedy is an Environmental Technologist, MNR certified Managed Forest Plan Approver (MFPA), Butternut Health Assessor (BHA) and owner of GSU. He has been working in the environmental and horticultural industry since 1996 where he ventured into Northern Ontario as a tree planter.  Since this time he has not looked back and continues to learn and push forward as a pioneer in the green industry. In addition to founding GSU, Doug is also active in the community. He has served on the City of Kawartha Lakes Environmental Advisory Committee (CKLEAC) and was an instructor and course developer at Sir Sandford Fleming College (SSFC). Doug developed the Managing Turf and Landscape in the Urban Forest course at SSFC and taught all disciplines of Soil Sciences and Trees & Shrubs ID SSFC offers.

As a keynote speaker at venues such as the International Centre in Toronto, Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay, Toronto Botanical Gardens, many horticultural societies (2009 OHA AGM Fall Seminar in Lindsay), Oshawa Garden Club, Canadian Organic Growers and more.

Doug Kennedy is a founding member of the Peterborough Chapter of ALUS…

He is also the acting Chair of the Peterborough ALUS PAC (Partnership Advisory Committee).  Alternative Land Use Services (ALUS) is a unique incentive program that recognizes the role farmers and ranchers play in producing both food and a healthy environment. Supported by Ontario Nature and local communities, ALUS is a voluntary program that allows for community-led, farmer-delivered conservation initiatives.
